Larry will be speaking next week at two important events on Capitol Hill.
At the annual State of the Net conference of the Congressional Internet Caucus, Larry will participate in a discussion about challenges to the media industry posed by the move to cloud computing. SOTN runs Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 17 and 18, 2012. The panel, “The Clouding of Entertainment Media: The Challenges of Giving Consumers What They Want When and Where They Want It!”, takes place on Jan 18th at 9:40 A.M.
On Thursday, Larry will speak on controversial proposed copyright legislation, at an event co-sponsored by the Cato Institute, the Competitive Enterprise Institute and TechFreedom. The event, “Unintended Consequences of the Rogue Website Crackdown,” takes place on Thurs, Jan. 19 at noon. Both events are open to the public; registration is required.
Larry appeared Tuesday night on the PBS Newshour to debate the latest round of government seizures of domain names as part of a crackdown on unlicensed sports apparel. Debating a lawyer from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Larry repeated his concerns about the legal process being utilized by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. He also discussed serious flaws in two pieces of pending legislation that would expand government and private power to manipulate the Internet.

Larry will moderate a panel discussion on “Making Privacy Profitable” at next week’s PII Venture Forum, Nov. 15th on San Hill Road. For more information on the conference or to register, go to PII. Larry will be in Washington on Thursday for a debate on the newly-introduced “Stop Online Piracy Act,” also known as the E-Parasites Act. The debate is organized by the Advisory Committee to the Congressional Internet Caucus, and is open to the public. Details and RSVP here.
